Gutter pipes and Eggshells- Chapter 1- Hungry- Rough Draft- Unfinished

May 8, 2013

Thomas was a street rat. Like most people in his little group of street rats, his parents were dead. He didn't know how or what killed them. He just knew that they were dead. It was simple and clear. He didn't complain. He just lived with it. And thats what all the people in there group did; they forgot about there long gone parents. So there they were, parentless, homeless, and foodless.

All four boys, Thomas, Ethan, Joseph, and Nathaniel, were crouching in an alleyway. There was a small bakery straight across the road. They were conversing quietly as they watched the bakery with hungry eyes.

"Do you think we should break in?" Ethan asks, placing a numbingly cold hand over is mouth, muffling his voice.

"They'd call the police and we'd be sent to an orphanage then!" Joseph says quietly, trying to emphasize the orphanage in the sentence.

There was a moment of silence, then Thomas spoke up. "Maybe we should just act casual then grab something." Everybody considered this.

"I wish we had grappling hooks!" Nathaniel yells loudly.

"Shh!" The boys put there fingers to there lips, silence Nathaniel who guiltily look towards the bumpy pavement ground. Josephs stomach growled.

"Lets just try what Thomas said. I'm hungry." Joseph grumpily looked at them all. He stood up and held his hand out for the other boys.
